Obituary Transcription Project
We currently have permission from four Florida
newspapers to display their obituaries in our Digital Library and Archives. As
the list of newspapers that agree to let us display their obituaries grows, volunteers
will be needed to harvest and prepare the obituaries for uploading into the archives.
Volunteers are currently needed to index the obituaries we already have. To volunteer for the Obituary Project, as either a harvester or to index them, please contact Laverne Tornow, Archives Manager, leaving the subject line intact. !!Coming Soon!!
!!Hernando County Digital Image and Indexing Project!! Once the documents have been digitized and uploaded, volunteers
will index and transcribe them. When completed we will have a transcription, index
and a digital copy of Hernando County's oldest documents that are allowed by law
to be displayed publically.
A call will be put out for volunteers as soon as the first batch of images have been uploaded. This is expected to occur sometime in April or May as Volunteers for the Hernando County Clerk's Office will be digitizing the records. You may pre-register as a County Document index worker or transcriber by contacting Laverne Tornow, Archives Manager. Please leave the subject line intact and specify whether your preference is for transcribing or indexing. |
